Right!! Literally all of body horror can be seen through the lens of queerness and gender, if it's not already expressly written to be that way

Body deformation/technofeminism/abjection/“the uncanny” have been common tropes for portraying female bodies in arts but most of them came from male-centered frame of reference at the same time

Well yeah, the whole point is to get men to empathize and realize what it’s like to live as a woman with the constant feet of your bodily autonomy being violated. It kinda HAS to be male-centered for it to work as intended

Especially with Ripley undergoing major surgery to get it out of her body. She literally asks the surgery machine for a Caesarian section at first, but it’s not programmed for it so she basically has to tell the computer to operate like it’s removing a tumor. In retrospect maybe that part was a little too on the nose IMO but it also does a GREAT job of reflecting how women are often forced to take drastic measures to get healthcare, especially abortion

Seriously. It’s insanely rare to find a director who can simultaneously be that subtle with their intended message while delivering the point SO effectively

You should, it’s also a masterclass in horror and suspenseful writing Also, Ridley Scott (the director) wrote the only survivor as a woman because he knew audiences would expect it to be a man
