Because a lot of people who try to critique movies have no idea what they’re talking about and have never even tried to make a film in their life. They might make criticisms which are technically valid, but some of their own favorite films might be eligible for the same critiques: the difference is just that they didn’t like the film they’re critiquing. Many people will simply dislike a film, which is completely valid, but then just try to critique it to explain why they didn’t like it.
Oh yea for sure. You definitely don’t need to be a filmmaker to critique a movie. I just think a lot of times, the critiques people give films could be said about some of their favorite films as well, meaning it doesn’t actually make the film “bad”. Every film can be criticized with valid points. A lot of the time, it really just comes down to personal preference and what people like. I agree with you though.
