I was told not to watch the trailer for project Hail Mary because they give something huge away. Has anyone that read the book confirm this

kind of. the main character starts the book with serious amnesia, and it takes a bit for him to remember who he is and how he ended up in space. So the trailer has to spoil a bit of who he is, or it'll say nothing at all. And one of the main characters (who is a bit of a mystery) is spoiled as well.

The stuff that’s spoiled in the trailer is mostly book readers recognizing something, but the average person won’t really be that spoiled by it unless you analyze it. The thing is, the book description tells you basically nothing about the broad story, so everything in the plot is basically a revelation. It would probably be more exciting to have nothing spoiled though, but you should really listen to the audio book. Even if you’re not a big reader. It’s posted on YouTube rn

but if they're putting all of this in the trailer, it seems like they're going to tell the story differently than they did in the book

don't watch the trailer and then go read the book before the movie comes out. but otherwise, I think it's fine. A trailer is meant to be watched, after all...spoilers in the book arent spoilers in the movie if they're put in the trailer

There is something major “spoiled” in the trailer though. It’s just something very unexpected that happens in the book, and it’s really exciting having it revealed over a chapter or 2
