My toy story ratings could kill a man. I know that they’re objectively wrong but it’s just my humble opinion on them

i won’t ask you to justify it but i’m curious what made you dislike the first two

Aw hella nah. The open sequence to Toy Story 2 is one of the most memorable moments not just from the series, but Pixar as a whole

I really don’t like the plots of the first two and the animation is very very bad

well… it’s widely recognized as the first CGI feature film EVER created so that’s something to consider.

Also the plots are for children in the 90s so that’s 100% understandable lmao

I mean yeah it’s the first CG movie but that doesn’t mean we should pretend it’s good. So many old movie were important for doing something for the first time but are kind of nothing burgers now

it’s just the historical context that helps you consider your perspective. i could talk about how bad some of the effects are in Monty Python but i understand what they were working with (or lack thereof) plus their intended audience lol.

Historical context ≠ quality. We watch movies for immersion, right? Testing the waters doesn’t amount to anything for the film itself

i didn’t mean that it’s historical context made it better, yet it just helps us consider the subject as a whole. yeah it’s shite CGI bc it was the first ever attempt & there wasn’t much to compare their work to. i guess i don’t really watch movies particularly for the immersion; for me, it’s the artform alone and their integration of other arts (painting, ecocriticism, scripts, dance, poetry, cinematography, MUSIC, photography, etc.). i think that’s where i’m coming from! 😊

Also just because someone has more of an open mind and appreciation for the arts doesn’t make them pretentious

buddy if you’re watching movies strictly for immersion then why did you watch the Toy Story series knowing that you’re not a child that can be immersed into a world where your toys have their own lives and relationships when you’re away 😐
