GOT when they change the first sex scene between Dani and her husband into a rape scene. (I mean it was rape in the book but bc of her age not bc of consent)

Also my favorite film. I also sort of wish that scene was not in the film, I do think it serves an interesting purpose of being almost a litmus test for the audience. Some viewers might not see replicants as human, but that scene makes you feel uncomfortable for her. (They could have shown this another way, maybe have a character other than deckard do it, and he could stop it). But if deckard is a human, then it again shows that you empathize more with a replicant than a human. -

no. i actually do. it’s about rachel wrestling with her humanity versus her biological programming. It’s still shitty scene

i still would not call what happened in that scene rape by all intents and purposes; it’s uncomfortable but isn’t that the point?

you should google how ridley scott treated sean young during filming that scene and how she felt about it.

even so, i still stand by that it wasn’t a rape scene and it serves an essential purpose in showing the line between rachels humanity and her replicant nature

- I think the actual only reason it’s in the film is because ford and young didn’t have good chemistry, and they couldn’t make the “love” believable, and it’s just reminiscent of old film noir’s ig

i’ve also seen a lot of interviews and articles over the years detailing that sean young was pretty horrible to work with and she basically stopped showing up in movies after a while

yeah because he literally wrote in a scene to get back at her. She described the scene in other quotes as “like an assault” and that she was left “bruised” after filming. Ridley has a history of making weird decisions with women. You don’t have to look any further than the choice to film most of Alien with sigourney weaver in her underwear

Ridley also didn’t get along with Harrison ford, who himself also has a reputation of being hard to work with, they all 3 butted heads

dont get me wrong i dont think ridley scott has ever treated his actors well and he absolutely pushes them past the point of being okay, that still doesn’t change the symbolism and purpose of the scene itself and i hesitate to believe the scene was created solely to „get back” at young for rejecting his advances because of how crucial it is to the film’s message

Tbf they didn’t change that scene too much. Dany is crying and saying ‘no’ in the book too, it’s her internal dialogue that reveals that she’s not entirely opposed to it. (She’s still 13 so it’s still gross as fuck.)
