not a movie but im really interested in Steven Universe but i don't like it when shows are like filler/vibes episodes and it doesn't start to get deeper until later

as a major SU fan, it has incredible rewatchability because those “filler” episodes suddenly become filled with easter eggs that allude to later story points and hints at the main plot line. truthfully, a lot of those episodes are major keys to character development… even if they’re frustratingly placed with the least interesting/important character like Mayor Dewey.

i absolutely get what you're saying and I agree filler episodes are great for character development but i personally just need to be hooked in with the overarching plot from the beginning. Kinda like how in Gravity Falls, you're immediately hooked in with the mystery of who the author of the journal is.

that’s fair. i actually appreciate the slow burn of knowing only as much as Steven knows every episode, then slowly building the world around him. it’s pretty effective for getting you to care about the main character, but less about the plot.

yeah i think it just boils down to character driven shows vs plot driven
