How did Heath Ledger just doing a Tom Waits impression work so well for the Joker? The voice even down to the mannerisms. Worked like a charm.

Tom Waits is a musician, blues/rock guy who’s not super mainstream but musicians absolutely love him so he’s highly influential, if you’ve seen The Wire then you probably know one of his songs from the intro to that show. They used a different version of it each season, but Season 2 used the original version by Waits.

brother you asked who Tom Waits was and I answered, and as for the new question, TDKR kinda sucks, slow ass pacing, Bane isn’t Bane (I know Nolan wanted that Grimdark Realism, but cmon, he’s not even juicing), I think Bale’s Batman was always kinda lacking/mid and got carried by his villains, who were phenomenal in the first two movies, TDKR puts a mid villain in the mix and the film just ends up suffering for it.

I mean, when people talk about how great Batman Begins and TDK are, most people aren’t talking about how Bale is the greatest guy to ever wear the cowl, I hear Liam Neeson and Heath Ledger get brought up way more often than Bale when people hype up the Nolan trilogy. Bale was always a solid B+ as Batman, carried by A+ charismatic villains. You throw in a C- Bane, and suddenly the movie is an absolute slog with a completely inflated runtime.

I’d have loved to see Knightfall done right, but you can’t do Knightfall right with Natty White Boy Bane. That villain needs to be Latino and he needs to be juicing.

I think he just doesn’t like it because it’s blatantly anti-leftist.

Oh well I love The Dark Knight, even though I vehemently disagree with the political message of the film. I can acknowledge that TDK is absolutely Pro-Patriot Act/Surveillance State propaganda (something you can disagree with whether you’re on the left OR right), while also acknowledging it’s a very well made movie with great performances from its cast. I don’t typically agree with Nolan’s films on politics, but it rarely takes away from them for me.

Just like all my criticisms for TDKR don’t have to do with the politics, it has to do with the fact that I like Batman comics, and I think Nolan absolutely BUNGLED one of the all-time great Batman stories by doing a half-assed Knightfall adaptation lmao
