Agreed. ATLA really doesn’t hold up for anyone older than 13.

Respectfully disagree. I loved it as a kid, but it kinda lost its charm when I started getting into all the stuff that influenced it (Miyazaki, Kurosawa, Sergei Einstein, etc). I’m glad you still like it though!

Nah ATLA defs holds up, I’m glad you finally took your Film 101 course and are experiencing some of the classics but being pretentious in this way is only going to make you have shit taste and showcase a lack of ability to critically engage with a story.

Not trying to be pretentious or anything dawg it’s three very well known directors! I’m happy for everyone who likes the show as an adult! More power to you! I was just explaining why it doesn’t really hold up for me today. Not my cup of tea, but certainly not a bad cup of tea.

Eh he’s pretty condescending which is pretty hysterical. I mean my pov on his take is kinda funny, I grew up watching Ghibli/Kurosawa/movies like the Bicycle Thieves, legit never saw ATLA till I was an adult lmao. Esp. Cause he seems so condescending about it it’s literally like every film bro ever that says their favorite movie is Stalker or Eraserhead

yeah i’ll admit that was a dumb way of being hyperbolic. i should’ve opened by saying it doesn’t hold up for me particularly.

Ah, dont mean to be a grinch, Merry Christmas, ATLA may draw inspiration from the films you mentioned but it’s a masterclass in character arcs in its own right
