“(Insert movie) wasn’t even scary” is not a flex or a critique. Not everyone is going to find the same things scary and honestly you sound like a tool when you say that.
Horror movies aren’t always meant to scare the shit out of you. Sometimes, they are just meant to distract you from reality.

Genre/trope =\= purpose of story
The entire point of a good horror film is for the concepts and their meaning to stick with long after you’ve watched it, and long after the moment it might have scared you

In your opinion. Sometimes it’s just to have a good time. No long standing effects. Just pure, unadulterated fun. Scream, Abigail, Evil Dead, Terrifier all are good movies/franchises without deeper meanings but are fun.

Well that’s just it; if the purpose is to have a good time then that’s just as worth watching as something more serious. The memories of laughing with friends watching Evil Dead 2 is going to last just as long with me as being traumatized by Schindlers list.
