The league loses money every year. They’re lucky they’re even getting paid at all. The LOWEST salary is also 66k which is about a normal salary for a normal job. Far from “pennies.” They should be glad they get to play basketball instead of sit at a desk.

What about the MLS? What about Ronaldo? Those leagues are both not profitable at this moment. So they shouldn’t get paid either?

The claims from the NBA that the WNBA is not profitable may not be as concrete as people think (although I agree up to now they haven’t been profitable bc of the state of their business deals) This tactic was used in 2011 when they tried to get NBA players to accept a pay cut and hard salary cap which resulted in a labor lockout. It’s about ownership wealth hoarding

And flash forward to now, owners of NBA teams are still wealthy and have gotten wealthier over time. For the WNBA, their pay is also low because their salary in this current CBA comes from shared revenue of the league, whereas the NBA CBA uses Basketball Related Income (BRI).

Ronaldo probably shouldnt make 250 million dollars per year, no. But the club offered him that so they have to honor it. WNBA players generate zero revenue and dont have any better offers on the table. Absolutely zero argument for increasing their already high pay
