i’ve heard of mitochondrial dna being passed down through female descendants- would that reinforce the genetic aspect? i’ve noticed it tends to be more strongly expressed in the women of my family than the men

That’s the fun part, you don’t! (In reality it differs greatly depending on how the dysfunction manifests. There is no true “treatment” without gene editing, but there are quite a few medications/remedies that can improve mitochondrial function And ofc this isn’t the *only* cause of autism. Just interesting that it can be one of them lol

The main type that I’ve been looking into are pretty standard genetic mutations that aren’t linked to sex chromosomes (and just démens on dominant/recessive type genetics) but there are definitely some out there. A ton of different conditions can affect mitochondrial function 🤷‍♂️
