Also made me realize why teachers were the way they were – half just naturally seemed to know if they didn’t bother me I wouldn’t be a problem, the other half felt it was their personal duty to “fix me.” Sitting me at the front of the classroom to build confidence, forcing eye contact, calling me out in front of the class for biting my lip or picking my fingernails, or bouncing my leg… And then suddenly I’m getting disciplined for being ornery and defiant, like *ahem* SHE STARTED IT.
