If I ever hear someone call me “neurodifferent” instead of just “neurodivergent”, I’ll probably crash out.

“neurodifferent” sounds like the new “specially abled” shut up Ashley it’s a disability. it doesn’t bother to sugarcoat my symptoms so don’t make it sound like less of a struggle.

that would make me physically wince for sure, but what i reeeeaaaally dread is the prospect of being playfully referred to as “neurospicy” (no real disrespect here towards people who self-describe that way though, tbc)

Exactly that. I’m Disabled. I own it and I’m proud to have that part of my life shaping who I have become and continue to become. I’ve learned things I never would have otherwise. But I have challenges because society is shitty toward us. Changing our label doesn’t remove those barriers. We didn’t ask to be spoken for by neurotypicals.

That! I use it for myself with ND friends of mine but would never ascribe it to someone else who I don’t know their comfort around it. It’s a fun way to joke and tease in the right contexts, but it doesn’t work for everyone.
