I’m going on my first solo flight in 10 days and I’m doing two layovers. I researched the two biggest airports to which I’m going but i want to know what experiences you guys who have traveled solo may have to share. Is it scary?

how much time do you have between layovers? that’s honestly the only part of flying that scares me anymore. i always get to the airport at least 2 hours before my flight starts boarding. i’ve never solo travelled but i do fly solo often

my grandma (undiagnosed) programmed me into going to the airport 3hrs earlier than the flight so i’m extremely prepared, i know my surroundings near the gate, i have time to settle before the flight, and noise cancelling headphones technology has made it even better. obv that is not for everyone, but those things have helped me with travel especially to new major airports! personally i love traveling alone! my ASD irritates travel companions usually lol.

I’ve flown back and forth a lot for college! Depending on the airport, definitely arrive at least 1 hour, preferably 2, before the boarding time. You could also use the app of the airline, this has made things so much easier for me. If needed, look up a map of the parking lots, the requirements/fees, and directions towards your terminal. Keep all liquids in checked bags, I’ve had different experiences from different TSAs, it’s best to just put it all in a checked bag.

Depending on your needs, make sure you’ve eaten or bring a snack, stay hydrated, use noise cancelling earplugs, get something to fidget with. I also make sure to bring something that’ll keep me entertained, in case I do manage to get tired of staring out the window listening to music. Could be a book, mobile/ipad games, music, word puzzles, etc. Some airports have accommodations for neurodivergent/disabled individuals. I have no experience with that myself, but I recommend checking. Good luck :)
