Do you want steam engines to make a comeback? Cuz it sounds like you’re asking for steam engines?

you know, i’m generally pretty sensitive towards & critical of stereotypes about autism, but i really do find the “train-obsessed” jokes uniquely innocuous 🤔 it’s kinda fun to have such a neutral & harmless cliche to play with, ykwim

honestly if we’re building a large rail system, using china as a reference would be good since theyve built a very large high speed system!

Actually fascinating fact one of the best ways we’ve found to map optimal train routes is to grow slime mould and give it food sources at each station and watch the path it chooses to grow.

Yeah, I get it! Trains aren’t in my wheelhouse of interest very much, but I love when people have a fixation on it and study these things. Diversity of interests is just a net-gain and is how we continue to develop!

If you google “slime mold trains” bunch of articles come right up, on how it grows a nearly identical network to the Tokyo subway system, using oat flakes 🤣

Makes me wish my city actually went forward with and finished building the network they started constructing… now we just have the old tunnel downtown. 🫩

totally, the world needs people who can organically feel passionate enough about a subject to become super knowledgeable about it. plus even aside from any functionality to society, i think it’s an admirable trait

(not that positive stereotypes can’t also be burdensome ofc, but fortunately it doesn’t seem like the kind of thing where people Expect us to be like, load-bearing geniuses or something lol)
