I am a grad student, and I teach several Intro to Writing courses each semester. I’ll be honest with you. I had no idea the problem was this bad until I started doing this. Over half my students can’t read a 3-page article in under an hour. And when they are finished “reading,” they can’t tell me what it says.
I had one class damn near mutiny because I told them they couldn’t scan the article in as a PDF to allow them to ask ChatGPT to give them the summary and key points. When I asked them to write 2 pages about a time they learned to do something (absolutely anything), they said it was too hard.
i’m a TA and have noticed students using chatgpt for the most basic tasks 😭 like our labs are meant to be free marks using concepts from lecture and some of them just copy and paste every question into chatgpt, it’s crazyyyy. this post was based on a much simpler idea though like i keep seeing people write comments on here saying “this doesn’t make sense!” and then proceed to agree with the post they’re disparaging
