I am genuinely a slow learner. But I can’t say that in job interviews. But I can’t say I’m a quick learner, because that’s just a lie. So I have to let them assume I’m a quick learner or average and then they hire me and I immediately disappoint them 🫠

It took me 2 years at my last job to feel like I knew what I was doing. I need very explicit, detailed instructions and it makes people think I’m lazy, unintelligent, and/or trying to get others to do my job for me

focus on your desire to learn, dedication, and focus on improvement. instead of saying you’re a slow/fast learner, talk about how you commit yourself to learning, make an effort to improve, and how you apply your knowledge to the real world practical experiences

Omg I feel you- my brain is just so slow sometimes and I can’t be forthcoming about that cause then they’ll think I’m either lazy and making up excuses or just too stupid for the job 😭

This is very good advice!! My problem personally isn’t really being able to sell myself (I just never mention the topic at all) but that it would genuinely help everyone involved if I could openly say “I am a slow learner and need very explicit instructions. I will ask an abundance of questions that to everyone else have extremely obvious answers.” Because then I’d only be hired by someone okay with that, and then the employer would know what to expect. Of course that will never happen—

—because there would be 0 reason to hire me, as opposed to someone else who is an average or fast learner and doesn’t have those needs. So I guess I’m just kind of complaining even though there’s no solution lol. I think it’s unfortunately just part of my asd but I wish I could somehow get better at understanding people’s/employer’s expectations
