If any of you were originally diagnosed with adhd but then found out you have autism too/instead (esp girls) how did your doctor come to that conclusion and know the difference? Asking for a friend (me)

For me it’s instead. I got diagnosed with autism by a different doctor as part of a php program for my ocd. When I told my normal psychiatrist he said he didn’t think girls should be diagnosed with autism. So that’s how he reached the not-autism conclusion. He said adhd because I had brain fog, but that only started after a concussion and I never really met the diagnostic criteria.

The doctor at the php program almost immediately asked if I’d been evaluated for autism when we started going through my history since I had developmental delays. They put it as a deferred diagnosis and then had me talk to some other doctor who determined that I did have autism.
