we’d go on expensive vacations like world cruises, and my family would make everyone turn off calling on their phones so we wouldnt GOD FORBID accidentally accept a call (it costs 50 cents a minute)

somehow mcdonalds was a splurge?? like i was never allowed to go there, or really eat out at all. only pizza and sometimes chinese food. otherwise everything was cooked at home oh and NEVER name brand groceries. but somehow the organic more expensive variants were sometimes fine (like annies organic mac and cheese and those all natural fruit strips, neverrrr gushers tho no matter how much i begged)

we went to iceland and i could only get the cheapest ramen from the grocery stores, or eat the real icelandic food like puffin, whale and other mystery meets ALWAYS in stew cause most other groceries are imported into iceland and ofc even tho the trip was thousands of dollars, god forbid a meal cost $15

i didnt even know disney sold food and ive been there so many times (we had passes cause we lived really close). we’d ALWAYS pack sandwhiches. at most we’d get the refillable soda cup and the whole family would split it and we’d use the same cup every time we go

Could it have been because they themselves grew up poor and then got out of poverty? Otherwise idk how this can be explained

my dad grew up poor, but ironically is the most frivolous spender now that he’s divorced, my mom never let him spend like that. but my mom did not grow up poor in a literal sense, but she was raised a lot like me because her dad (where the family money comes from) hated spending money on things other than a big house or nice car. so i got it from him and lowkey im the same way as them now in my personal life
