Self diagnosis is valid. Studies suggest the one of the best diagnostic tools for determining autism is just the person thinking they have it and identifying that way.

Suspecting you have a diagnosis and using it as a reason to seek a diagnosis or try out strategies is valid. It’s absolutely not the same thing as an actual diagnosis.

This one reads a little more like a thesis but it interesting. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09515089.2024.2327823#abstract

Not for resources of course. But not everyone needs resources. For some it’s just enough to be like “wow this is why I do x” or “this is why I like things this way.”

This, at this point in my life an official autism diagnosis would change virtually nothing for me other than knowing for sure but knowing for myself and how it affects me helps me significantly and I can learn to work around it.

Same. The evaluation I already have matters nothing to my daily life other than I have the option to check “disabled” on a job app (which I’ve stopped doing). Other than that it’s just a 1k document that didn’t explicitly say autism but listed a whole bunch of ‘symptoms’ attributed to other co-morbidities. If I was still in school/decided to go back I might consider it, but I’m not willing to spend that or more to get another doc especially with the current political climate.
