ugh, I have complicated feelings about AI usage (critical of generative AI in particular, but ofc “AI” refers to so many different things at this point that it’s hard to generalize) but I’m increasingly uncomfortable with the way people have been using the whole “clanker” thing

Yeah. Like ok yeah right now ai and its usage is complicated and has the capacity to cause a metric ton of problems, but maybe introspect on WHY you want a target to call derogatory slurs. What the hell are you going to do if ai/robots somehow manage to gain sapience somewhere down the line? Slurs are only funny if the joke is being made by someone that could be called that slur, and WHY is this so hard for people to understand

This! My views on AI are complicated (because it’s a large field and it’s a complicated topic), but I feel this. I just feel weird how the word “clanker” normalizes slurs (even if it is directed towards AI/robots most of the time), it still doesn’t feel okay.
