Third time a therapist has asked me about being assessed for autism…people who were diagnosed later in life, what was the process like and why are you glad/indifferent/ regretful that you got an evaluation+diagnosis?

I see a neuropsych for unrelated reasons who has offered to assess me (and suggested I’m very likely autistic). It’s been suggested throughout my life, but hearing it from someone who CAN diagnose makes me certain I am. That being said, I declined. The current political climate makes me feel unsafe with being diagnosed. For most people, it really depends on how much accommodation you could gain from a diagnosis.

Same! I’ve had several therapists tell me I should get diagnosed. I’ve done a ton of research independently on it & scored very high on the RAADS-R test. I want the validation of a diagnosis but in this political climate, and with wanting to move out of the country to places that may not let me in, I’m too scared to😕
