Fr im like "make eye contact so they know you're paying attention " then im like "which eye am i supposed to look at" so i end up looking between both eyes. Then i realize i forgot to actually pay attention to what they are saying then i look at their mouth to try to read their lips so i can actually understand them bc for some reason my brain can't just listen to words, i need to see a persons mouth or have subtitles
This is a vivid memory. I have in third grade because I got my card moved to Red because I “ rolled my eyes at a teacher” I tried to explain to her that I didn’t roll my eyes at her, that if I was rolling my eyes, I literally would’ve rolled my eyes. She then proceeded to call my mom to tell her that I was disrespectful and argumentative and my mom had to come pick me up from school cause I could not stop crying.
Closest thing I have to that story my dad got pissed I looked up trying not to cry because he wanted me to look at him and yelled at me to look at him to show respect. Which to me is not an eye roll I’m just looking up to not cry. Him not getting that shoved me cause he thought I was being disrespectful
I read lips (I’m not deaf but I have audio processing disorder) and I’ve been told to make eye contact, I literally can’t help trying to be polite. Plus, when you look at someone’s nose, they assume you’re looking them in the eyes. They can’t tell the difference. How about we just don’t assume someone is flirting?
