i've always been prone to making "intense" eye contact (as opposed to mild? idk i have a neutral expression or i'm smiling idk how to deescalate further) and people either get scared or think i'm flirting 😭

I’ve been told to look at the forehead but then I’ll accidentally look at their eyes and it feels bad. :c

Fr im like "make eye contact so they know you're paying attention " then im like "which eye am i supposed to look at" so i end up looking between both eyes. Then i realize i forgot to actually pay attention to what they are saying then i look at their mouth to try to read their lips so i can actually understand them bc for some reason my brain can't just listen to words, i need to see a persons mouth or have subtitles

i'm guessing bouncing your eyes around their face? like eye-eye-mouth triangle or something?

This is a vivid memory. I have in third grade because I got my card moved to Red because I “ rolled my eyes at a teacher” I tried to explain to her that I didn’t roll my eyes at her, that if I was rolling my eyes, I literally would’ve rolled my eyes. She then proceeded to call my mom to tell her that I was disrespectful and argumentative and my mom had to come pick me up from school cause I could not stop crying.

Something very similar also happened to me, I was looking at my dad and I looked from somewhere to the left, up at him, then down somewhere to the right and grounded me for “rolling my eyes” and I thought it was so unfair cause all I did was look up at him and then look away

Closest thing I have to that story my dad got pissed I looked up trying not to cry because he wanted me to look at him and yelled at me to look at him to show respect. Which to me is not an eye roll I’m just looking up to not cry. Him not getting that shoved me cause he thought I was being disrespectful

It’s the way you look at someone though 😭 it’s not JUST looking at someone normally, if you’re looking at someone’s mouth and back to their eyes constantly, it’s reasonable to assume that

Like if someone is talking tho I look at their mouth?? Like to me that is normal

I mean if you’re looking at their mouth and eyes rapidly enough and have other cues they can assume you are flirting… probably should not look at the mouth, stare at the nose /area between the eyes.

Fr!!! Especially cause two of my favorite hyper fixations are things that would genuinely considered more manly topics! Like babe I promise me arguing with you about football is not me flirting! And God forbid a girl ask a guy what his favorite US Naval ship is SMH

Why i generally avoid eye contact lol. Ppl will assume i’m trying to flirt w them even though i’m a man, so i rarely compliment strangers and avoid looking at their face, usually look at a fixed point next to their heads

I read lips (I’m not deaf but I have audio processing disorder) and I’ve been told to make eye contact, I literally can’t help trying to be polite. Plus, when you look at someone’s nose, they assume you’re looking them in the eyes. They can’t tell the difference. How about we just don’t assume someone is flirting?

Omg that’s crazy. I never assume that a woman is flirting. 99% of the time they’re just being friendly.

I mean, it’s a well known cue for flirting for a reason. Not really by choice since it just makes sense intuitively why many people can see it that way

i am pretty sure the triangle method is like looking at one eye then the mouth then the other eye when flirting with someone, dont quote me on that tho it could be wrong lol
