People tried to cancel me once for saying I didn’t have trouble affording something and I flipped it on them. if you have a valid ADHD diagnosis use this exact phrase to undo a canceling, “I have an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex and I’m liable to say things that can be taken offensively, that being said, simply canceling me is more of a reflection of your moral shortcomings than of my cultural insensitivities.”
I hate that cancel culture seeps into more than just targeting bigots and willfully ignorant people. I think it’s important to call out people who are homophobic, racist, sexist, etc, but in other cases, just disagreeing with something someone said/did doesn’t make it okay to cancel them. One of my friends in college got doxed bc she was trans living in women’s dorms (she had a private room) but a parent got so offended that she had to move out and change all her contact information. Sucks big
Nah. Sounds rough though. Makes me feel really fortunate to not really give a toss about whether people like what I say and think or not. Everyone who ever just ignored being “cancelled” has done fine. I have a difficult time picturing what OCD surrounding morality would be like since morality is such a spectrum of subjectivity to start with.
At least for me, with moral ocd, my brain picks a set of very high standards to hold myself to, and then freaks out about them all the time. I feel the need to constantly check and question my thoughts and actions to ensure that I haven’t done something Bad, according to those standards. Generally, they are impossible to meet in full, so I become convinced that I am a Bad Person and must try harder to meet said standards, and it’s a loop that feeds itself
