my psychiatrist wrote “severe alcohol dependence” on my chart after i mentioned drinking ONE time. literally wtf since when does less than two drinks in one night once a fucking month constitue an addiction? and then she refused to prescribe a stimulant

it’s dystopian as fuck the way that a psych professional’s unfounded judgments & personal biases can interfere with your ability to get your needs met for years at a time 🥶 I swear something about being put in a position of authority like that seems to gradually erode their critical thinking skills

can't she be reported for that?

You have the legal right to access and change the information in your chart. I know phone calls can be a lot (at least for me) but you can all the office and have the secretary make a note

we have the legal right to Ask that information in our charts be changed, but we have no legal guarantee that the file itself will be updated in accordance with our request. and when a provider has already labeled you as “drug-seeking”, they’re more likely to dismiss those requests as disingenuous & manipulative

the entire concept of drug seeking is so stupid lmao like oh nooo i want the medication that will actually help my disorder 🙃 if she put that on my chart i would die ive been so careful to not say anything but she prescribed me strattera and it isnt helping at all.

something I think about every time I end up going through adderall withdrawals (thanks to my access being disrupted by nonsensical administrative & legal issues) is the fact that our medical system legitimately cares WAY more about punishing hypothetical addicts than they do about helping patients

LITERALLY, like god forbid I come into the clinic in pursuit of a ~substance~ which is proven to work wonders for a neurological condition that’s ruining my life. between the ADHD and the lifelong chronic pain, I lowkey feel like someone’s about to call the cops on me any time I have to advocate for myself re: treatment options 💀

🤝🤝🤝 it’s such an uphill battle getting diagnosed as an adult in the first place, then when you finally get evaluated on paper you find that you’ve been dropped off in a whole new obstacle course on the path to effective medication “treated like a criminal” is exactly it. hate this for you!!

anyways, I’m glad you’re already in the process of looking for a different provider 🙏 cause on the bright side, IME a sensible and compassionate psychiatrist will have no qualms about striking an inaccurate assessment from your record. just wish you’d been assigned someone more competent in the first place!

YES OMG i wonder where id be if i had been diagnosed as a kid. im being evaluated for autism rn and its even worse than it was for adhd testing. no ones taking me seriously because im a girl and i collect purses instead of trains, my psychiatrist rolled her eyes at me when i told her i was geting tested like wtf 😌

get a new psychiatrist bc some of them suck, its important you get the meds you need and ive had a few now and they would completely disapprove of this
