Are meds like antidepressants actively balancing chemical imbalances or doing something else?? Are they changing my brain chemistry in a way that makes me more neurotypical or something?

Idk how other kinds work but SSRIs are increasing the serotonin levels by stopping your brain from reabsorbing as much serotonin. We basically don’t know why this helps, but it seems to help a variety of conditions such as anxiety, depression, ocd, ptsd, etc.

different kinds of antidepressants work to prevent the reabsorption of various chemicals in your brain. SSRIs for serotonin, SNRIs for norepinephrine, etc

depression was actually found to not be linked to serotonin levels like previously believed. modern medicine treats symptoms and depression can be a symptoms of many other conditions. even nutrient deficiencies like vitamin d and iron

scientists don’t completely understand the process but the meds are supposed to increase the amount of the chemical it targets to prevent excessive absorption
