front desk/register is so easy I promise! just fake smile, be very apologetic if they complain about anything, and just be super fast so you have minimal interaction

I worked a register when it was still pretty mandatory to mask in public…I hated it but once I figured out I could just grimace under my mask and it would look like I was smiling with my eyes, it was a game changer 😭

I was a barista; here are some tips (that helped me, at least) - compliment specific items/accessories “Where’d you buy that [item] from?” - say you love their order “Oh, I like that [item] too, the [something about that item] is great!” - try to avoid asking how days are going. If the answer is bad, the customer feels compelled to lie (or tell u anyways). Either way it’s not great. - If they’re wearing merch for something, u can ask them about that. They probably want to talk about it anyways

oh also remember you can let there be silence! like have a little spiel you give when they first come up (how are you/did you find everything okay/I'll ring this up right away) and then you can just stay silent until you need to prompt them for payment
