Do you ever actually trust dogs again after a dog attack as a kid?

I was attacked around age 4, bad enough that I lost consciousness and had to be taken to the ER. It’s my first conscious memory and I still have scars on my face, on my nose by my eye and two more on my lips. Then I was attacked again around age 8 but it was not as severe. I still love dogs, I just learned more about how to read body language and know when it’s safe to approach. I think it traumatized my mom more than it did me

I got bit in January of this year so it was pretty recent but I can’t look at a dog without thinking about it my scars are fresh I thought he’d broken both my wrists (I didn’t even like dogs that much before)

I think what helped in my case was that I grew up with dogs. We had a big ol german shepherd when I was young, then a mutt, now a little yapper. But I don’t remember I time when we didn’t have a dog and they were all loving and kind. So I had stronger and longer lasting positive associations
