Just be yourself! Don’t change your personality or behaviors for some dudes. If any of them try to ask you out or “pursue” you then just kindly and firmly set a boundary of “no” or “no thank you” (no is a complete sentence) and that should be that. If they continue to harass you, then take it up with the proper manager or HR or whoever. Just make it very clear you’re not interested, but you shouldn’t have to dim your sparkle for anyone just because they misinterpret you

Also btw! Did the guy customers say something to you about the “flirting”? Or did just the manager think that guy customers think that you’re flirting? Was a complaint filed? Is it affecting your work performance? Is your manager a man or woman from what you know? Because a lot of this sounds like a big giant not-an-actual-problem because even IF you were flirting with customers is it crossing the professional line? Is it crossing physical boundaries? No? THEN WHAT THE PROBLEM, MANAGER???

yes, those things are true. I just know men and they don’t like no for some reason. I think op wants non-confrontational interactions, which is why i said be dull

Yeah, that’s what I usually do, as someone whose masking makes them really bubbly I hate when guys think that I’m flirting with them. so to combat that I try to be overly straightfaced and complete the interaction as quick as possible with a little to no eye contact

yes i think this is my issue. i’m usually bubbly, and being in sales means i need to make more of a connection i guess to try and sell 😭 my manager said i flirt back but i genuinely don’t even realize i’m doing it… so i’m kinda just stuck in between. i can’t be too stiff bc then i won’t sell, but me being me means i’m basically flirting apparently

Totally understand wanting to not be confrontational! If that’s the way OP wants to go I totally get it. I have also seen men who take the “bored” or “dull” approach as a challenge 😭😭 either way OP needs to be safe and happy

That in my opinion is true sexism (if you appear as or identify as a cis woman) saying that your bubbly/nice personality is “flirting”. Because if a guy salesman was bubbly or nice they’d just say he’s a good friendly guy. But suddenly a woman is bubbly and nice so she must be flirting 🙃

Because it is ONLY a problem if you’re not using professional language or good customer service. Like if you were touching on the customers, or eyeing them up and down slowly licking your lips, or making comments about how strong they look or you like their hair, etc…..THEN THIS DOESNT MATTER. This is just PERCEIVED or POSSIBLE flirting with no real evidence or confirmation. Like is a simple “smile” considered flirting now?

my manager and i are both women. it’s not like a big issue, but i have noticed i’ve been flirted with A LOT. idk i’m part of sales so the flirting isn’t hurting it, but it’s just strange and i don’t want to give off that impression. i knew the guy was flirting with me from the start, so i said something to my manager and she agreed that he was. another customer, she said i was flirting back with him. idk it’s just preference, i don’t really want to give off that vibe or hint to the customers
