The saying “isn’t it better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all?” has never resonated w me bc I’d rather just not put myself in a position to get hurt.

Bc hurt is temporary. Love isn’t, it grows. Love for a specific person may fade, yeah, but the grief of losing them is just love with nowhere else to go. I’d rather have a chance to experience the highest of highs that is love than just have contentment forever. I know I’m not wording this right but this is something I’ve had to grapple with intensely since I’m marrying someone much older than me. There’s a very good chance I’ll spend a large part of my life without them after they die.

It’s hurts that my dad died. A lot. Every day. But to think my life would have been better to never have had him in it? Never. I am who I am today because of him. It truly is better to have loved and lost than to never know that kind of care and love at all.

Because I’d rather have lots of good memories and periods of happiness than avoiding all that for one bad one

I mean, for those that are agnostic or atheist, what is the point of living if not to feel or experience every emotion. What is to live if not to feel/fail.

The years of happiness and love I’ll share with them is more rewarding than the risk of feeling grief when they’re gone, and the sadness of not having them for the end of my own life after they’ve gone. And that’s the best way I can explain it. Risk vs reward. I’ll heal from grief. I won’t heal from the hole never having experienced love puts in my heart.

for me I don’t believe in any religion but what i believe is most similar to agnosticism. I have felt love and it is an amazing feeling but the heartbreak, depression and healing process afterward make it so not worth it and only hurt me in the long run. I’d rather feel my highs from loving myself, which took me a long time to learn to do, and making the most out of the life I have not going and ruining it by falling in love with someone who doesn’t even deserve it

That’s completely reasonable. I think people also deal with things and emotions differently than others and that can completely change the way an experience is perceived

the good memories are worth it a lot of the time, but it’s not good as a general rule either way
