Anyone else hate getting in the shower and will actively avoid it, but as soon as you get in the shower you’re like “ahhhh this is nice” but then when you get out you never want to get back in?

i really feel this. i’ve been traveling since the end of may and showering has been really difficult in these unfamiliar places bc it’s such an uncomfortable and vulnerable act (even had a meltdown once when the stupid hotel supplied half a ketchup packet’s worth of 2-in-1 shampoo/body wash). idk what to say but i really get you man

i get overstimulated easily in the shower and HATE breathing in hot/damp air but i’ve found leaving the curtain half open helps with that aspect at least

dry shampoo, shower wipes, deoderant, makeup wipes (for your face more gentle than shower wipes). all stuff i used after i dislocated my knee and couldnt shower

my solution when i don’t feel like showering isn’t entirely healthy but i lightly punish myself. like oooh i’m too dirty to get under the covers so i have to lay on top of my bed instead of under the cozy blanket. but the way i incentivize myself to shower is by having a youtube video i only listen to when i’m showering, no other time. so if i want to continue it, i get in the shower

do you think music might help, or showering in differing lighting? sometimes showering in the dark helps me bc not being able to see every hair or dark speck that comes off me makes me feel more clean and it’s just overall less visually stimulating. chewing gum or having other candy/treats might make it a little more bearable! just some thoughts :>

having reliable post-shower clothes might give you some familiarity too, and it’s worth considering possible new shampoo/conditioner/body wash brands that may feel/smell better (i personally hate shampoo/body wash that gives me that weird frictiony feeling in my hands). i had a lot more thoughts than i first assumed HAHA

100% agree making showers weird makes them less overwhelming. I’ve showered in the dark. I’ve taken cold AF showers (hot to cold showers work too), I replaced the light in my ceiling with a RGB Alexa bulb and had a one man dance party, sometimes you gotta get creative to solve your own stupid problems. I once laid down in the shower and drank a soda and pretended to be hungover and just let the water hit me. Sometimes the stupid problems get stupid answers to make them fun.

sometimes you just cant bring yourself to shower, but cleaning yourself helps wuth mental clarity a ton so even just wiping down will help

yes i actually have done all of those things, and yes they greatly improve my showeing experience overall. i just can’t understand why im so lazy to just not get up and do it. and i always feel amazing after i do it. i feel like i need to categorize showering as a simple and easy breezy thing rather spend 30 mins in there doing every single thing i can think of to better myself. i feel like im fucking crazyyyyy :(

i like this approach. getting silly with it, i like it. i always have to have music on, and sometimes i treat myself to a bath with only candles lighting the room. i gotta make it whimsical so i love the dance party fun lights idea

those “recapping (x show/drama/book)” videos are very great for this because they don’t require visuals. but if it would help you, just find some videos like this and make a shower playlist of videos you only play in the shower. if you’re not a fan of videos, maybe a music playlist of songs you only listen to in the shower
