A lot of people would agree simply because what makes large age gaps so problematic is that the two are in very different life stages. A 23 year old is very new to the adult world still. A 30 year old isn’t. This doesn’t sound like much at first but it can contribute to a power imbalance and that is very attractive for creepy people. They like people who are easy to prey on and don’t know any better, so someone significantly younger than them may be an easier target than someone their own age

I agree that there could be a power imbalance due to differences in experience and that there are many people who are willing to exploit that. But I feel like just knowing that one person is 23 and the other is 30 wouldn’t be enough info to conclude that that’s what’s going on.

imo you’re both right, insofar as it’s fair to be a bit wary of that 30 year-old by default, but also best to not confidently assume the relationship is necessarily exploitative
