Yeah I nearly had to drop out because of this. But after 6 years I finally made it to the finish line, even tho I didn’t walk in graduation. Now im just dragging my feet on finding a job, but i know I handle routine better as long as there isn’t anything like homework that I have to do when I should be resting or focusing on what I do enjoy
YES ITS SO DIFFICULT😀 my therapist (who also has adhd) told me that the things that motivate us as ppl w adhd r diff than those who dont have adhd & the acronym for it is uRAN so u = urgency, r = rewards, a = accountability, n = novelty. sometimes we get stuck w executive dysfunction when these things dont exist but we can try to manufacture them or find ways to set them up in our lives to help give ourselves that motivation we need to get things done
I like to pretend I'm in one of those academic rival stories and it helps me lock in. also, I don't know if you've already tried this or not, studying with someone else can help. it keeps you acountable and the anxiety of being judged for goofing off during the study session will keep you on task
Stop treating studying like a sprint to the finish line before a test, it’s a marathon and you gotta dig in now to see improvements over a few weeks. Gotta start by copying your notes. You’ll start to recognize and remember things better, and find more organized ways to write down what you wrote and learnt better your notes are your tool to understand and remember info if you need a picture or a diagram draw it. Also read your fucking textbook. It sounds boring but dramatically improves grades.
The only way i was able to break this cycle was getting help and having people hold me accountable to try to help motivate me. Sometimes just a friend or academic advisor is good enough to vent to abt your struggles who can be there to give u advice and support. It didn’t happen all at once tho it was a hard process to figure that out
Oh seconding this! Even if they don’t fix everything it is still a huge step forward! Going from failing every class to getting Cs was still huge for me. Going from not being able to get out of bad to only missing one or two days a week is progress even if it still doesn’t seem like enough to people who just aren’t struggling with that.
