it’s an old art piece. basically the concept is that the machine needs the fluid to continue functioning, so all it does is scoop it back towards itself while it indefinitely flows away. it’s basically trapped in a futile effort to keep itself alive while serving really no other function. a few years ago, though, it died

Like any other machine, without routine maintenance some part will eventually go bad and the whole thing will kick the bucket.

Yeah the hydraulic fluid got in between the joints and was slowly gumming it up, and it eventually just froze and shut down
