If you have a freezer, you can fill a cup with water, freeze it, and then put an object on top of the ice. If it’s still on top, the power didn’t go out (or not for long enough for food to spoil). If it’s in the middle or bottom of the cup of ice, that’s how you know the power went out and it was out for more than a trivial amount of time
