My boss told me that if I’m late one more time, I’ll get a written warning… I can’t help that I have time-blindness. Honestly I think he’s just ableist, and doesn’t like me because I’m autistic/ADHD, non-binary, and openly polyamorous.

This reads as satire, but just in case it's not Time blindness is a symptom that places do not accommodate for that needs to be self regulated. If you have time blindness, you need to take steps to make it manageable, such as setting alarms.

There’s nothing ableist about wanting your employees to be at work on time. It’s a rule for everyone, and a rule for a reason.

There are lots of ways you can accommodate yourself so you won’t be late. Set an alarm, set reminders, figure something out. Being on time is a basic expectation for life in general. Figure it out.

If you’re aware of your time blindness then why aren’t you doing anything to fix it or help? This reads as an excuse. You’re mad because someone finally called you on the carpet about it rather than doing what you can to fix the problem. It’s not ableist to have standards you hold people to.

I also suffer from time blindness, however realistically—severe depression is what sets me behind. I struggle every morning and medication made me worse. There are remedies to time blindness, but other factors should be taken into consideration to plan what works best for you.

Time blindness is a serious issue caused by executive dysfunction. I really don’t like how the comments are talking to this person like it’s always a choice. Yes, you have to take steps to correct this, but have some empathy. It’s not easy.

When you have a disability, it’s my biggest ick when people don’t always understand the symptoms aren’t pretty, and can in fact be really annoying. “Why do you have asthma, just breathe”

agreed, but this doesn’t sound like a case of disability just directly causing the problem. Entirely forgot about work once? really sucks, but understandable. but being consistently 5 minutes late? Set your alarm 5 minutes earlier than whatever it was, and do the same exact routine. Some fixes are simpler than others.
