Mindfulness meditation, like going to the gym for your attention span. Helps your brain interact with thoughts as they come to visit. Helped me personally with anxiety and depression as thoughts tend to spiral. Very straight forward, very difficult, set a timer, shut your eyes focus on your breathing. In / Out, rinse and repeat, when you get distracted just refocus on your breathing and continue. At the start recommend several 2 minute sessions work your way up to a single 8-10 minute sit.
this won’t work for everyone but i’ve noticed the more time i spend outside, the easier it becomes. too many thoughts turns into: “awesome, i’ll put that on the back burner until i am staring at a sunset or the rain” and then i just give myself designated chaotic thinking time in a beautiful location. it’s not a cure but a cope for sure
It’s gonna SUCK, it’s like instant and forced dopamine withdrawal to do something BORING and SIMPLE, but you’re gonna feel like a million bucks after and be instantly addicted like a runners high. The brain chemistry shift happens over a few days, but it’s dramatic and noticeable. You will get distracted. You will have some sits that go dramatically better than others, that’s just life. Breath, rinse, repeat.
Came here to say this 😭 BUT everyone should be warned that a lot of psychiatric meds mix with thc and cbd so you should start at really low doses and experiment from there. 10mg of thc has me on the floor, and any amount of cbd makes the effects last for **days** so I avoid cbd blends at all costs
Honestly, best advice I can give is just again, breath rinse and repeat wherever you can. When I learned to meditate it was under a gym during a kids basketball practice at the YMCA and we used to joke it was the best and worst place to meditate. It taught us distractions were a natural part of life, and that all you could do was relax and focus the best you could; because it was actively frustrating environment to many, but taught us how to persevere in that environment.
