Thought all these ads treating “ED in men” were finally acknowledging how gym culture bulking and cutting are just binge eating and anorexia repacked… I forgot about erectile dysfunction.

NO BC CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW GYM CULTURE CAN BE SO TOXIC FOR MEN AND HOW PEOPLE EVEN SELF HARM AT THE GYM BY PUSHING THEMSELVES TOO HARD/FAR OR WORK OUT INSTEAD OF CONFRONTING THEIR EMOTIONS

Aw, same OP - I definitely still tend to read ED that way too. (Had anorexia for ten years, recovered now, my dudes 🤙) A kind of sad aspect is, I actually caught myself thinking, “Maybe if it stops being seen as a ‘girl problem,’ it won’t just be women who care or talk about it.” 🥲

this is slightly off topic and I know more acknowledgement and normalization of erectile dysfunction in men is a good thing but as a woman with an arousal disorder I find it deeply upsetting bc of how hard I had to fight to even get a doctor to take me seriously. all the meds prescribed for me are either made for men or specially compounded so they cost upwards of $80 and none of them have worked yet either and it's been two years of trying different treatments idk it just sucks

oooh reading this unlocked a memory of someone i used to be friends with that let gym culture control her life + refused to acknowledge the root being her body dysmorphia and made comments in passing that fueled my horrible relationship with food 🤡

Well ED was known as erectile dysfunction for years. I grew up with that, idk when it became eating disorder

100000% yes, as someone who was a power lifter and body builder the amount of men I knew who were always dysmorphic no matter how buff they were and used workouts as a form of like masochistic punishment for having emotions was crazy. The gym is so good for you and puts me in a great headspace, but it can be a really dangerous environment for people

right and btw I’m so glad u were able to recover from that, congrats. that really is a sad thing, just cuz they commonly see women having issues with ED doesn’t mean men don’t. Idk why they think women are the only ones who can have health/mental health issues u know but at the same time not take it seriously tho smh

I think it’s whether or not you were born with a penis is what you associate with it? I don’t have one so I always thought of it as eating disorder

I’m a woman, I grew up with it meaning erectile dysfunction. I think this may be a generational thing
