Literally arguing with an “autism mom” in a TikTok comment section rn because I tried to politely point out that saying autistic people have kid minds in adult bodies is a harmful and demeaning rhetoric and she is pissed.

One of my least favorite parts that stems from this is that it makes those in relationships with autistic adults appear as predators. Let us live normal lives plz. And “mental age” just means “intellectual performance” it doesn’t actually mean you’re “mentally younger” and I hate that it’s still a term used professionally

Right! Also they redefined autism to just a social and sensory disorder, when it first came out it had to be paired with an intellectual disorder and some people still have the misunderstanding that they go hand in hand. I work with autistic kids and all of them are so fucking smart
