If you have ASD and BPD, one of them is incorrect! It’s well known these two shouldn’t be dx’d in one person. Downvote all you want, there’s a mass of psychs who don’t get ASD OR BPD at all and over pathologize instead of correlate.

I just think people should be aware so they can advocate for the correct dx.

according to a 2023 article from the NIH “a recent pool estimate of ASD in persons with BPD shows a prevalence rate of 4%”

Anonymous replying to -> #5 14w

They absolutely can and do occur together for some folks. They can overlap in diagnoses leading to misdiagnosis but they can be comorbid as well.

That’s definitely still highly debated and most trauma informed providers will not diagnose both together.

upvote -1 downvote

still being debated doesn’t mean it’s not possible to have both so please stop spreading misinfo

It’s not misinformation. And I also have multiple doctors who literally told me this, as an autistic with trauma. Y’all can stop with the gang up, it’s not okay and IS bullying. I literally said I think people should be aware so they can get the right dx, and y’all just haaad to find a reason to start ganging up. That ain’t autism, I’ll tell you that.

What was the process of getting diagnosed with EDS? I suspect I have it but I don’t even know how to start getting diagnosed.

Sorry I meant BD (bipolar disorder) not BP (evil oil company)

So I’ve had a lot of knee and scarring issues and when I talked to a plastic and ortho surgeon together they both realized it could be Eds. Only way to diagnose is by genetic testing and it depends on the places you go. It could be rheumatology, Urology, or even pediatrics (I did it through them at 21). I’d recommend going to your doctor and asking to get the test and need help finding places that test for it

Anonymous replying to -> #5 14w

no one is bullying you nor is anyone ganging up on you. you can absolutely have both & it’s not uncommon to have both either. if you can’t handle people correcting you then maybe don’t be on the internet

Your very first sentence was set out to dismiss people. Nobody is a monolith, ASD and BPD do coöccur. It’s really that simple. “Oh, I was told this. Okay, maybe they were wrong. Thanks!” Really simple.
