Used to work in a pool store years ago. A plant in Ohio went down in flames and caused the price to spike. They never dropped the price because people were buying it. I saw a 5 pound bucket go from $25 all the way to $80 in one summer.

bromine gas fires in chlorine factories are unfortunately pretty common. my family worked in the pool industry and unfortunately the same thing happened to one of their providers.
