Fr it makes me so mad when ppl are like “oh I think EVERYONE is a little autistic/ADHD :)” That’s cool Jessica, but are you unable to use public bathrooms because the hand driers are too loud, or refuse to eat a TON of foods because of their texture, or chronically unable to do things you know you need to do, even if you WANT to do them? Right, I didn’t think so. It’s so invalidating as someone who is dx’ed with both of those bc they affect EVERY ASPECT OF MY LIFE, I’m not just “silly goofy”

Facts. Plus I think a lot more people are socially awkward and or emotionally stunted because of/since the pandemic

brooo so many people at my school use their "autism quirks" as an excuse for refusing to evolve socially 😭😭 like my brother in christ it is alright to be neurotypical

also! a lot of times a mix of depression and anxiety can help manifest a lot of the same traits as adhd and autism.

We want to make sure we’re being mindful and not gatekeeping people with actual symptoms. Neurodivergence is complex and I’d hate to shut down someone legitimately trying to find themselves. I hope there’s a middle ground somewhere.

Yeah, will say, I don’t even know what debilitating means anymore, cuz I feel like as a kid I used to literally run around and make noise cuz the hum of the TV was overwhelming. And now that I’ve spent 20+ years being overwhelmed it’s just like yeah, it sucks; but if you live your whole life listening to nails on a chalkboard eventually it just blends into the background in a “this is upsetting, but I’m keeping a straight face” kinda way 🤷‍♂️

I know the whole pandemic destroyed my ability to mask, but I had issues before. I honestly feel so bad for younger students who had to do everything online right when they are developing socially. I’m sure many of them have developed similar issues, but that’s not autism. You tend to be born with that
