contact the dean of students and explain your situation, they usually understand and will at the very least help you navigate the situation

Appeal. Cite extenuating circumstances associated with your mental disabilities. They should put you on probation which will let you stay in school. Reach out to your school’s disability office for help. You have the right under the ADA to receive reasonable accommodations. Probation will be a reasonable accommodation

Don’t resign yourself to walking away unless it truly benefits you and is what you want. Keep in mind, you haven’t actually tried yet. You may be trusting the predicative part of your brain to anticipate the outcome, but you’ve never seen these procedures play out. If you heard that from someone you went to for advocacy, find another advocate. Bonus points if it’s a professor with tenure (usually the rank of “associate professor” or higher, but unis vary).
