So although it sucks that happened to your dog that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed. If I didn’t have my ESA because the building “was non pet friendly” I’d genuinely have anxiety attacks and ptsd triggers. And if that’s the case your dog shouldn’t be allowed either service dog or not. (This is isn’t to attack you but look at it from that perspective) Esas already get a bad rep and have people thinking we “don’t need them”.
I went through the same type of bullying in elementary school, but they rage baited me in different ways, basically just teasing me until I got extremely upset (as in shouting). It gradually isolated me bc my friends just kinda didn’t want to be around when it happened and I couldn’t figure out how to explain to them why it was so upsetting so we grew apart. The only thing I learned from that is to not engage and to basically never trust anyone who did this even once ever again. Online, if-
-you genuinely try your best to explain to them your point and it feels like you’re talking to a brick wall, stop engaging, they either genuinely believe what they’re saying and refuse to listen to anyone who’d disagree (therefore trying to convince them otherwise is a fruitless effort) or they’re rage baiting you. I also need you to understand that there’s nothing wrong with you, it’s sadistic fuckers like these that make the world worse. I wish I could be there to try and help support-
I have multiple disabilities as to why I need my ESA so it is a bit ableist to say that just because an ESA is not a service dog and attacked your dog. If anything the owner should be in trouble or the school should have guidelines but saying esas shouldn’t be allowed in “non pet friendly buildings” is a bit abelistic and furthers the idea that they “aren’t needed”.
that’s going to be an unpopular opinion, because more people have esas than service dogs, but i’m sure people are just being defensive of themselves or their friends. if you keep your chin up and pretend it doesn’t bother you, it’ll go away eventually. you need to definitely report the owner of anyone whose esa attacked your service dog to your school or housing authority.
That’s actually not true. And there are so many cases where they are “necessary”. Again people like you are perpetuating the ideas that Esas aren’t “necessary” or it’s not as serious or needed as service dogs which isn’t true. Also my ESA isn’t a dog. Even if he was it’s not sugars and rainbows to get them trained and made a service dog. So love how you say that as if it’s so easy. Also where I live you can’t make certain animals a service animal so the closest I can get to is an ESA.
You clearly didn’t read anything I commented. Like I said you and the OP are supporting and perpetuating the idea and negative stigma that ESAs are fake or not needed or we make it up. Just because some peoples disabilities are more visible than others doesn’t mean the ones who aren’t don’t need the support like of a ESA. I’m done responding y’all are ignorant and ableist.
i had a delta society service dog for similar diagnoses to what you have, and since her passing, i have a cat that provides great emotional support to me. i mean this in the kindest way possible, but it sounds like you may be clouded by a bias of frustration about inability to access care and taking it out on the wrong people. your cat, nor my cat, nor anyone’s cat unfortunately cannot perform the same tasks most people who need a service dog to live accessible lives require.
You don’t know my diagnosis so don’t speak for me. I can access care do you want me to change the law? I’m not frustrated at all you’re purposely being obtuse about my point which is again why I said I wouldn’t be responding anymore. The whole fucking point is ESAS are needed no matter the disability and the op shouldn’t have said that period.
i didn’t say your esa was fake or made up at all? i said they are proverbially, and often literally, an entirely different animal than a service dog. it is a lot of work to get a service dog trained. i did it. and it is also a process to select an appropriate emotional support animal. i did that too. both have helped me in different ways. but to insinuate they’re comparable in any way just because someone may not have access to a service dog is a false equivalency.
I say this with as much compassion as someone can in a comment, I think you need to step away from a bit from this for the moment. Turn off your yy notifications at least for this post and come back later, I don’t think 4’s responses warrant the degree of frustration seem to be feeling
Thank you for defending me. They dmed me to say I was weird and ableist, which was a lot to hear as I am already dealing with cyber bullying from my school. I want to clarify I very much support esas in housing, just not in non-pet friendly buildings outside of that. I actually help esa owners on campus some time when they get pushback from housing to get approved by helping to explain the law to them so they can use it to defend themselves
