My therapist is convinced I’m autistic and said that my brother’s diagnosis means it makes more sense that I would be too bc it’s genetic. My mom is convinced I’m not autistic bc I don’t act the same as my brother. Idk man. I just wanna not hate my brain.

Not everyone who is autistic is the same, that’s why it’s a spectrum

hey so I’m going through this. I started therapy a few months ago and they are confident I’m AuDHD. I’ve been referred to a specialist to confirm the diagnosis. Just reading the testing packet they gave me I’m like “yeah this describes me pretty well”. Part of getting diagnosed by a neuropsych usually involves questioning someone who knows you well in your childhood.

Also OP I don’t know your biological sex but autism not only presents differently in different people (spectrum), but also presents differently in different sexes. So, if you’re biological a female you may present autism (theoretically if you had it) differently than your brother

but anyways getting labeled doesn’t necessarily make you not hate your brain. It only explains why we are the way we are but provides a starting point for exploring a new way of understanding yourself and justifying your life
