Any advice? College denied my accommodation request for a single. I don’t even get why. A DETAILED description from me isn’t enough and a letter from my PCP confirming that being in a shared dorm is SUBSTANTIALLY impacting my well being.

You probably need a letter from a psychologist or mental health specialist not just a PCP

Or if your school has an office of equity they might be able to help

They said it was okay to do a PCP bc I’m having a hard time finding a therapist outside of college bc of my insurance and the therapist at my college can’t do the paperwork bc it’s potential bias since she works here

It was probably denied immediately bc it’s unreasonable to move someone out of their dorm. But if you submit it when you’re doing housing for next year it will most likely be approved/you’ll be given precedence to get one if there’s a waitlist

my old roommate moved out same day when we told her to stop posting about us on facebook instead of talking to us about her problems with us. try talking to Student Disability Services at your school with the same letter & any other accommodations.

My college also says a PCP is fine but they have never accepted a PCP letter. Could be a thing where they say they have to legally but don’t actually provide it. Granted my college is incredibly shady

Have you tried finding a psychologist/psychiatrist someone who’s more qualified and can do prescriptions and stuff not just a normal therapist? They tend to be easier to get insurance coverage for

It’s the DRC that denied me :(

Moving out into another basic room is fairly easy. But singles are high demand. They’re typically full and waitlisted. They most likely do not have one available for OP to move into, hence the denial. There’s nothing more they can do right now bc the school will not (and cannot) force someone to move out of their room to fulfill the accommodation. They can try next semester to see if a senior had one and graduated, someone transferred out, or just wait for housing application for next year

I think I go to a school that has significantly less students than their peak decades ago so there are a lot of open spaces in shared dorms & some just don’t fill up either.

My college went from half empty (during Covid tbf) to they had to start buying homes in the area and hotel rooms to house students. Turned doubles into triples, turning closets into dorms, building new rooms in suites with divider walls, etc.
