Serious question: do you ever worry about passing down your condition to your kids. I’m sure we are all comfortable with levels familiar to our own, but does the risk of more than you can handle hinder your ambition to procreate?

My mindset is I’ve already accepted I may pass it on. But the beautiful thing is I will know how to see them and how to help them and what they are going through. And that is the best feeling because if they do struggle, I will know how to help them, because no one in my immediate family understood what I was going through during the roughest parts of my life. I’ll accept whatever comes with the responsibility

It’s less my genetics and moreso the fact that I’d be a horrible parent.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I hope my kids aren’t autistic. Sensory issues are my biggest struggle and I never want my kids to be in constant pain and discomfort like I am. Or have to struggle in a society not built for them. Or be like me and struggle with addiction because of the weight of our condition

Also yall, remember that not having kids takes just as much strength as having them. There are so many parents who take their unresolved issues onto their children and pass down a lifetime of trauma. Don’t let people pressure you into something you are at peace with not wanting to

Understood. As I’ve gotten older that reasoning has changed for me. Sure the world sucks but I’ve found a way to enjoy what I can in it and believe I can pass that joy on.

That is why you as the parent, who knowingly has a condition, would have the experience to be a better parent(if you did the work mentally)and save your child from the things you lost in your past. Some of us had or have parents who came from a time where mental health was a sweep under the rug issue and a lot of us were left to fend for ourselves in some way. But now you hold the information necessary to make the key that would break that path from repeating.

And since some of my conditions are trauma based, I think I’d pass it down that way. So no adoption for me either :’)
