Sometimes I just put (joke) or (non threatening) etc at the end of the message

they might! they’re both super nt but one of my roommates had brought them up before from a different context and said something along the lines of “i mean i get it but like it’s kind of dumb” (he did not like the person who sent a list to a group chat) but that turned me away from it pretty badly

yeah that kinda sucks. i'm thinking maybe if you explain it as just shorthand or words like "lol" they might be open to it?
