1) Don’t be afraid to retreat for 5 minutes to yourself to breathe for a few minutes. Like your phone the first 70% charges wicked fast. 2) Don’t be afraid to kick people out if things get out of hand. Your house, your party. You’re gonna have an awesome night though! By the time the party starts you’ll get to kick back and enjoy it!
Not OP, but I feel like the rules arn’t cut and dry it’s more about communication. Tell people what your plans are. “I got 2 cases of beer, and enough Halloween candy to make us all sick” if you want something besides that, feel free to bring it for yourself or others!” If others offer to bring something, ask for a desert or an hors d’oeuvre. If you’re hosting a party during meal time though you’re on the hook for the main dish. Unless you tell people it’s a potluck upfront.
Kinda. My friends are bringing food but I’ve still spent some $~120 on stuff for the party. I also have a very tight circle of friends that are more than family to me, so we’re all spending similar amounts or helping in proportion. i’ve got my core besties and they’ve got some 15 other people they’re bringing lol
If you get invited to a party after 7 you’re getting desert/snacks/drinks. If you get invited at 4-5 you’re likely getting dinner (as it gives you time for a cocktail hour, and then moving onto a meal) college parties tend to go late/early. As you get older and people have work the next day, parties start ending earlier. My cousins are in their 30’s, and have kids and it’s rare for them to stay out past 9:30.
