I think what op is getting at isn’t that bringing up your autism is bad, but using it as an excuse for bad actions isn’t a desirable thing for others. That’s what I got out of what I read anyways, they definitely could have worded it better though; there are definitely some people, I’ve seen at least, who use autism/neurodivergence as a shield for bad behavior and they’re generally disliked by people for that.
I’m just speaking from my own experience and maybe that’s what the OP of that post is dealing with too. I don’t think every autistic person does this btw, I just find it a pretty common occurrence tbh. Like someone will be a terrible person and blame it on autism and I’m just like 🤔🤔
This isn’t to say all autistic or neurodivergent people do this, it’s just to clarify what I got out of what I read from OP and maybe give a different perspective? Idk 🤷🏽♂️, to me, when people say they’re autistic after they do something objectively bad, it gives me the same chills that I get when someone says “I’m not racist, I have a black friend”
That is not what OP is saying. They’re saying if you mention it people see it as an excuse. When it’s a reason. That’s not my fault that YOU interpreted it that way. when I say “sorry I’m autistic, can you explain more” I’m not using it as an excuse for misunderstanding directions. Its background information that they need to know so that they can communicate it to me better
